There’s an ancient ginkgo tree located in Jinshi town, the north end of Xiangxiang, Hunan province, which is now a rural tourism signboard.
The ancient ginkgo tree in Lotus village looks like it’s made up of three trees at first glance. They actually grow from the same root. It is said that the tree, with an age of more than 820 years, was planted by Wang Rong, the Number One Scholar of the Imperial Exam in the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
The height of the tree is 40 meters, the circumference is 12 meters, and the canopy covers an area close to one mu (about 666.7 square meters). It was listed as a Xiangxiang municipal key protected famous wood in 2000.
